Your responsibilities include the supervision of staff assigned to your projects, ensuring staff utilization, overseeing the work performed by the assigned staff, the fire protection project budget/time management, and ensuring the design is completed within the project design schedule and budget.   Job Responsibilities: - Application of Knowledge of Building Systems (Conceptual Design) - Applies broad knowledge and skills in fire suppression, fire alarm, life safety, building codes, and hazardous materials - Seeks to broaden and apply knowledge in all fields of fire protection such as fire modeling, performance-based design, performance-based calculations, and specialized systems such as explosion protection, hazardous dust, hazardous materials, gaseous agent systems, and alternative suppression systems (e.g. mist, water spray) - Independently evaluates selects, and adapts standard techniques, procedures, and criteria - Works on projects of moderate size or portions of major projects - Ensures understanding and compliance with owner’s building program requirements and facility or corporate standards related to fire suppression, fire alarm, life safety, and code compliance building design - Confirms and reviews applicable codes and standards including but not limited to the International Building Code Council, National Fire Protection Association, and Unified Facilities Criteria - Given the scope of design services, the owner’s building program and facility standards, building code research, and relevant industry standards, establish and document the fire protection and life safety systems basis of design and in doing so provide clarification, qualifications, and design assumptions regarding relevant design issues - Works with building/facility owners to ensure that the appropriate cost-effective systems/products are utilized in their facility - Works with building owner and construction management team to validate construction cost and provide value engineering options as may be necessary - Knows when to obtain support from Lead Fire Protection Engineer or Senior Fire Protection Engineer for assistance to determine engineering and design building requirements - Interacts with clients, customers, officials, contractors, and others involved in the design and construction process - Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments - Design - Designs a complete project, system, component, process, or unique aspects as it relates to fire protection - Prepares complete contract documents and specifications - Performs and documents engineering calculations related to fire protection systems to select code-compliant systems and equipment - Performs and documents engineering calculations related to life safety and building code compliance - Performs accurate selection and layout for system(s) and equipment - Drafts or oversees the drafting of the fire protection systems and in doing so establishes the appropriate level of drawing detail to ensure completeness and accuracy of design and construction cost - Schedules fire protection equipment with the appropriate accessories and remarks - Independently develops the necessary schematic drawings for fire alarm and sprinkler drawings. (e.g., isometrics, single line diagrams, action matrices, etc.) - Independently writes all specifications for systems. Ensures that there is a complete and accurate specification with all systems components and execution of the installation - Construction Support - Assist with problem-solving for field oversights - Shop drawing/Submittal review - Does Field inspections and reports with the Group Lead Fire Protection Engineer and/or Senior Fire Protection Engineer - Assist in Photograph review - Assist with RFI - Problem-solving for field oversights - Field inspections and reports - Photograph review and coordinates concerns/questions with the EOR - Project Management - Assigns tasks to and directs engineers, technicians, and administrative staff and assists in assuring tasks are completed and are accurate - Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work - Prepares scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments - Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or programs Education/Experience: - Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology - 5-8 years of experience Specific Knowledge, Skills, License, Certifications: - Licensed Engineer practicing in Fire Protection Haskell offers a very robust and comprehensive benefits package! Writes discipline specifications for assigned projects. - Responsible for the development of PFDs (process flow diagrams) and P&IDs for all assigned projects, making recommendations and coordinating changes/updates as necessary. - Develops and verifies equipment lists, equipment specifications, and controls, as well as instrumentation requirements for each assigned process project. - Construction Support - Checks shop drawings and submittal data for conformance with contract documents - Participates in plant surveys or field inspections, development of solutions to field problems, preparation of field orders, addenda and record drawings. - Advises and assists construction personnel in the interpretation and clarification of construction documents. - Performs, as requested, construction inspections, at the client’s site or at a vendor for specialty equipment, to monitor compliance with design intent, construction drawings, and specifications. Education/Experience: - Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Chemical and Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Food Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering is preferred. - Minimum of 5 years of process design and application engineering experience - Experience in designing factories or industrial plants. - Experience designing process systems for food and beverage. (Preferred) - Experience in refrigeration and utility design is a plus. - Strong experience and knowledge of a variety of food processing equipment/systems, sanitary design, and hygienic requirements including mixing, baking, frying, and a working knowledge of controls and instrumentation commonly used. - Strong preference for remote candidates to be based out of the Kentucky area. You must have strong knowledge of processing equipment and systems including a working knowledge of controls and instruments commonly used.   Job Responsibilites: - Application of Knowledge of Process Systems - Ensures execution of the process scope of services that meets customer’s project requirements and complies with all applicable codes, ordinances, standards, and regulations. - Develops all engineering calculations for process throughput, mass/energy balance, equipment sizing, relief devices, heat transfer, and fluid transfer. - Selects proper equipment for the unit operations that define the process. - Design - Participates in project strategy meetings, develops design concepts, and recommends system solutions. - Responsible for the development of Block Flow Diagrams (BFDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for all assigned projects - Develops or verifies utility matrixes, equipment lists, equipment specifications, and controls as well as instrumentation requirements for each assigned process project. - Works closely with designers for proper arrangement of equipment and piping to support the process and incorporate sound ergonomic principles. - Responsible to produce well-organized, finished construction drawings of good appearance, accuracy, and clarity, in accordance with company or client CAD standards. - Responsible for producing discipline construction material specifications and scope of work documents for assigned projects. - Construction Support - Participates as requested in construction inspection to monitor compliance with design intent, construction drawings, and specifications. Inspections may occur at the client’s site or at a vendor for specialty equipment. Prepares inspection reports. - Performs equipment submittal reviews and responds to the contractor and/or vendor Requests for Information (RFIs). - Perform bid analysis for vendor services or equipment quotes. - Provides timely solutions to field problems and prepares field orders, addenda, and record drawings. - Effectively manages project startup, commissioning, verification, and closeout tasks. - Project Management - Coordinates work with other disciplines.
