You will assist our multi-disciplined project team(s) with assigned tasks and will have many opportunities to grow and develop, both professionally and personally, throughout the Summer. You will participate in training programs and receive training in company management tools, standards, policies & procedures, during the assignment.  Additionally, there are fantastic opportunities to network with other interns across the enterprise during scheduled workshops, events and group projects focused on our culture and values.   In this internship, you will perform basic design and production of construction document duties assigned by a Licensed Professional.    Job Responsibilites:  - Produces well-organized, finished design documents of good appearance, accuracy, clarity, and correctness from layouts, sketches, or written instructions. Applies discipline design and detailing fundamentals in developing designs and specifications under the supervision of and subject to final approval by the Licensed Professional - Performs analysis or calculations as assigned - Creates work plan for assigned tasks. Monitors and projects personal workload status, advising supervisor of difficulties in accomplishing schedules - Coordinates and checks work carefully to minimize all deficiencies, errors, and omissions - Performs dimensional, interference, and basic design checks on the layouts and sketches of Licensed Professionals and, as requested, on interdisciplinary drawing sets - Assists Licensed Professionals with plotting/production/assembly of drawing packages and writing specifications - Maintains orderly work files and prepares clear well-written memos/ correspondence. Writes discipline specifications for assigned projects. - Responsible for the development of PFDs (process flow diagrams) and P&IDs for all assigned projects, making recommendations and coordinating changes/updates as necessary. - Develops and verifies equipment lists, equipment specifications, and controls, as well as instrumentation requirements for each assigned process project. - Construction Support - Checks shop drawings and submittal data for conformance with contract documents - Participates in plant surveys or field inspections, development of solutions to field problems, preparation of field orders, addenda and record drawings. - Advises and assists construction personnel in the interpretation and clarification of construction documents. - Performs, as requested, construction inspections, at the client’s site or at a vendor for specialty equipment, to monitor compliance with design intent, construction drawings, and specifications. Reinforces the role of specifications as the other half of the “instruments of service” for FFS (Fee-for-Service) projects and as key component of design-build projects. - Participates in the Haskell Specification Council by contributing to its movement towards common practice (Including, but not limited to processes, formats, and templates). - Travel as required. - Other duties which may be assigned as needed. Education/Experience: - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. - 10+ years producing architectural design documents with a minimum of 3 years of experience responsible for project manuals. Reviews and monitors scope, cost, and constructability during design development - Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate. - Estimate Development - Ability to estimate self-perform Water & Wastewater Yard Piping Civil & Mechanical Scope of Work. - Develops associated General Requirements for the yard piping self-perform estimated cost of work. - In addition to preparing detailed cost estimates, is responsible for reviewing the estimate and other team members. - Follows master estimate format for developing the Water & Wastewater yard piping civil & mechanical estimates, including but not limited to, work breakdown structures (WBS), forecasted wage rates, etc. - Ability to create estimates at various levels of design. - Review and verify the construction project schedule with the estimated Water & Wastewater self-perform yard piping manhours and productions. - Develop detailed scope of work clarifications associated with estimate. - Participate in pre-bid site visits. - Participates in design, scope, operations and estimate reviews. - Assess Value Engineering options on a basis of cost, schedule, and constructability. Provide recommendation on best solution. - Review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, method of construction, construction schedule, etc. - Subcontractor and Vendor Management - Assist in preparation and review final bid packages to ensure accuracy and completeness, prior to formal quotation. - Builds and maintains subcontractor and vendor relationships. - Ensures that at least three (3) quotes are received per bid package, unless otherwise agreed to by the proposal leader. - Verifies that only qualified subcontractors are considered in final subcontractor selection. - Meets with local subcontractors as needed. - Organizes and leads pre-bid meetings, if required - Works with the Business Diversity Coordinator when proposing on federal or public sector agency projects to develop a minority business participation engagement plan that complies with project requirements. - Receives quotes and conducts subcontractor analysis. Makes recommendation for subcontractor selection. - Assists the Project Director with the development of the Risk Register. - Assists with the contract manual/bid book development. - Maintain strong, supportive relationships with our internal and external clients by providing outstanding customer service. - Coordinate the design scope reviews with subcontractors and vendors throughout the preconstruction progression. - Post Estimate - Establishes and/or participates with the development of the project budget development. - Participates in subcontractor and vendor scope review meetings and selection, when required. - Participates in lessons learned meeting at project close. - May assist the Project Management team with change orders. - Follow projects during construction by site visits and various meetings to track cost accuracy. - Database Management - Assists with maintaining historical cost data. Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, price lists, etc. - Assists with the maintenance of the preferred subcontractor database. - Training - Trains Preconstruction staff and other personnel as needed. - May assist with the development and maintenance of training program. - May assist with employee performance reviews and employee development. - Travel - Meets with local subcontractors, attends bid walks, project site visits and attends conferences as necessary. - Visits active construction projects when required. - Approximate travel time required, 10-25% - Miscellaneous - Must possess strong communication skills. - Proven experience with Design-Build and CMAR project delivery methods - Perform other duties as assigned. Reviews project submittals. Checks and verifies dimensions within the design drawings, and as related to shop drawings - Verifies valid/current insurance of all on-site companies - Inspects for quality of both company-performed work and subcontractors' work and for compliance with engineered drawings. Resolves quality assurance deficiencies - Prepares Labor Cost Report.  Processes daily vendors' and subcontractors' invoices and delivery tickets.  Conducts weekly subcontractor progress meetings - Initiates all jobsite safety and accident prevention efforts. Investigates and reports all accidents. Holds weekly safety meetings and inspections for submission. Conducts new-hire safety orientation utilizing The Haskell Company code of safe practices - Acts as on-site security representative for Haskell - Maintains good community relations and clearly identifies jobsite by well-placed and maintained company signs per Haskell signage standards - Complies with contract specifications, POs, SCs, and permitting agencies for required inspections. The Construction & Manufacturing Team provides continual training for our team members to support their development from entry-level craft workers, via in-house/online courses, to local jurisdiction apprenticeship programs. Strong networks are formed on construction projects because everyone on the team depends on each and every team member to get the job done.   In this role, you will be responsible for the layout and fit of structural and miscellaneous fabricated products.   Job Responsibilities: - Selects equipment and plans layout, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining weld shrinkage, and welding techniques - Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together - Bolts, clamps, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding - Sets up equipment and welds parts, using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, or gas welding equipment. - May assemble parts by bolting - May repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using a cutting torch, straightening press, and hand-tools Education/Experience: - 4 years of experience - Certification in Tack Welding required - Prefer Welding Certification in 3G position Specific Knowledge, Skills, License, Certifications: - Rate information using standards that can be measured or checked - Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy - Look at flat drawings, pictures, and blueprints and visualize how they would look as solid objects with height, width, and depth - See detail in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes or shadings - Work easily and skillfully with hands - Ability to read shop drawings - Ability to comprehend weld procedures and weld symbols - Regular attendance, prompt and dependable - Ability to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions independently - Ability to perform moderate physical work, may be required to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly, climbing up on and balance on ladders, scaffolding, or stairs; performing such activities as bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting and graphing for up to five (5) hours without sitting - Ability to see well (either naturally or with correction); use hands and arms to reach for, grasp, and manipulate objects - Able to work both indoors and outdoors.
