In this role, you will be responsible for all preconstruction activities on large volume Consumer Packaged Goods Manufacturing Projects, including developing preliminary budgets, value engineering, preconstruction schedules, procurement plan, prequalification of subcontractors, detailed take-off and estimating, definition of bid package scopes, the subcontractor/supplier bidding process, evaluation of bids, presentation of detailed estimates of the work, evaluation of alternatives and comparative studies.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the Preconstruction phase effort and coordinates with the Project Director and Lead Estimator
  • Developing and/or managing the development of detailed estimates from conceptual to final design
  • Participating in design review meetings.  Leads and directs the design team during Pre-Construction. Monitors scope, cost, constructability, etc. during design development. Review design options and recommend the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials
  • Leading the pricing strategy effort, along with the proposal leader, and ensures the proposal team is clear on strategy and expectations
  • Managing cost tracking during Preconstruction
  • Leading and coordinating the Preconstruction Team
  • Developing bid packages, managing subcontractor/vendor participation, bid level, and evaluating market pricing
  • Building and maintaining subcontractor and vendor relationships
  • Reviewing proposal milestone dates with the pricing team and tracks individual progress. 
  • Ensuring timeliness of estimate completion and communication to proposal leader
  • Completing pricing clarifications
  • Leading estimate, constructability, and value engineering reviews
  • Assisting with the development of the construction schedule
  • Participating in developing responses to Requests for Proposals (RFP) or Requests for Qualifications (RFQ) submissions
  • Training Preconstruction personnel
  • Presenting information to the client as needed
  • Maintaining historical pricing information
  • Participating in proposal interviews, and presentations

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in accredited construction-related curriculum, such as Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent
  • 7 - 10 plus years of estimating experience with a preferred concentration in Consumer-Packaged Goods Manufacturing Construction

  • Experience in estimating, scheduling, budget/cost control, field supervision, financial reporting, client relationship, computer skills, interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated success in managing preconstruction pursuits
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated success in managing construction projects/phases
  • Ability to train others and monitor their work for quality and completeness
  • Demonstrated success in managing support staff
  • Knowledge of industry-standard bid practice, with design-build & CMAR delivery methods

Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements:

 

While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, and arm, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
