In this role, you will be responsible for preparation of and writing of architectural specifications for projects and Haskell/client masters. You will prepare and assemble full project manuals when requested.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Works with Design Project Managers (DPMs) and Project Architects (PAs) in the preparation of specifications and development of complete scope Project Manuals.
    • Leads the specification effort for the architectural discipline (CSI Divisions 00 thru 14).
      • Leads specification kick-off meetings with the DPM and the PA.
      • Coordinates subsequent specification meetings with project teams as appropriate.
      • Supports research of new materials / products / assemblies / systems needed for project.
    • Participates in project design reviews during Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Document phases, as appropriate.Oversees specification research and development, assuring coordination and compliance with drawings, for accuracy and completeness.
    • Confirms schedules for deliverables (interim and final) with DPMs.
    • Coordinates with project Construction Contract Administrators and PAs to ensure the appropriate formatting and inclusion of specifications from other disciplines in-house and third-party consultants, as well as the securing of necessary professional seals.
    • Works with DPMs and PAs to prepare narratives for new and/or modified specifications for addenda.
  • Works with Construction Contract Administrators, Project Directors and/or DPMs in the preparation of new and/ or revised specifications in support of changes to the Contract.
  • Mentors Haskell team members in their growth as design professional regarding specification development. Reinforces the role of specifications as the other half of the “instruments of service” for FFS (Fee-for-Service) projects and as key component of design-build projects.
  • Participates in the Haskell Specification Council by contributing to its movement towards common practice (Including, but not limited to processes, formats, and templates).
  • Travel as required.
  • Other duties which may be assigned as needed.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years producing architectural design documents with a minimum of 3 years of experience responsible for project manuals.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, License, Certifications:

  • CCS certification and/or CDT certification with active membership in the Construction Specification Institute (CSI).
  • Knowledge of Specification Software: MasterSpec, SpecLink, and/or SpecsIntact, with an emphasis on Speclink
  • Architectural license desired, but not required.
  • Previous specification writing, and/or extensive construction administration experience required.
  • Strong ability to proactively communicate with design team members both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient with Microsoft products (Office, Teams, 365), Bluebeam Studio, and Procore.

Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements:

 

While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, and arm, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
